Developing a Written Safety Plan: A Guide
LWCC is committed to supporting you in developing your safety program and culture to its fullest potential. A successful safety and risk management program requires detailed planning, careful implementation, and employers and employees who are committed to a strong safety culture.
The goal of a safety plan is to maintain a safe working environment through the development and implementation of processes to reduce injuries. The following components of a written safety plan can strengthen your proactive safety efforts in minimizing workplace accidents:
- Company/Management Policy Statement: establish safety as a value of your organization.
- Responsibility for Safety: establish the expectation of performance.
- Inspections: periodic review of conditions with documentation with any corrective action taken.
- Accident Investigations: documentation of all incidents to reduce a recurrence
- Safety Meetings: periodic discussions on safety with documentation.
- Safety Rules: establishment of basic guides of working safely with documentation of promulgation.
- Training: implement orientation and training of new employee and existing employees
- Record Keeping: posting, completion and filing of forms and documents.
- First Aid: provide and maintain life safety equipment in addition to training.
