Off to Work You Go, Safely
Many companies moved to a remote work environment in early 2020. While some plan to maintain this approach for the foreseeable future, or even permanently, others are bringing employees back to the office when they can do so safely. Each company’s approach may be different, but every company should have a plan in place to ensure best practices for employee return.
COVID-19 has changed a lot within our daily routines, making a habit of frequent hand washing and mask wearing, normalizing social distancing, and creating a routine for daily temperature checks. As the CDC continues to monitor the spread of the virus and recommends continuing to follow these safety guidelines, it’s important to transition these recommendations into the workplace.
Employers must restructure the daily work environment. Employees must change the way they go about performing daily tasks. Either way, putting a return-to-work plan into action helps produce best outcomes for everyone. We’ve taken the guess work out and assembled a 4-step process to help make this transition as easy as possible.
4 STEPS TO CREATING AN EFFECTIVE RETURN-TO-WORK PLAN
Step 1: Utilize LWCC’s return-to-work checklist to evaluate what needs to be included in your company’s plan. This checklist contains:
- General Checklist
- Employee Training
- Hygiene Control Measures
- Cleaning and Disinfecting Guide
- Additional Guides and Controls
Step 2: Review the sample plan and use it as a guide to assist your company in developing a customized return-to-work plan. This plan includes:
- Purpose and Objectives
- Risk Assessment
- Return to Action Preparation
- Hygiene Plan
- Kitchens and Break Areas General Guidelines
- Distancing Plan
*Remember! Your specific plan may look a little different as each company has unique needs.
Step 3: Once the plan is developed, put it into action! We suggest starting with training employees on:
- How to recognize COVID-19 symptoms
- Company leave policies
- Preventing of COVID-19 spread
- Proper hand-washing techniques
- Respiratory etiquette
- Self-screening and quarantine procedures
- Safety awareness posters placed in workplace
Step 4: Periodically review your plan for effectiveness and make improvements as necessary.
