Gulf Land Structures is a Louisiana-founded and Louisiana-based company that provides workforce lodging both in Louisiana and in remote, challenging environments around the globe. Guided by their motto “Do it right. Do it safe, or don’t do it at all”, the company is a fitting example of what it takes to make LWCC’s Safest 70 list of businesses who are dedicated to the safety of their employees and committed to a brighter future for Louisiana.

“The founder, Gerald Gossen, Jr. could have opened his business anywhere, but he chose to open in Louisiana. Gerald’s family has been here for generations and Gerald, like his family, has contributed to making Louisiana a great place to live and work,” said Gulf Land Structures’ insurance agent, David Koke of Dwight Andrus Insurance.

After 14 years of operation and with over 130 years of combined experience in construction, fabrication, and rental services of modular, offshore, and onshore manufactured living quarters, the company offers innovative and advanced technology to serve the living quarters market. Gulf Land Structures is prepared, certified, and licensed to handle some of the most unique living quarters projects out there — all while meeting the necessary regulatory requirements for construction.

From large motorized equipment to conventional hammers and nails, workplace risks for Gulf Land Structures take many forms. However, elite safety measures ensure that every worker is protected through every task. Between instructional videos, in-person visits, daily wear of PPE, and state-of-the-art safety equipment, Gulf Land Structures takes safety seriously; including job safety analysis meetings before work each day and after each break. Their thorough attention to safety is what separates them from other companies.

“Our goal everyday is for our employees to return to their families safe and sound. We strive to win the Safest 70 Award every year,” said Gerald Gossen, Jr. of Gulf Land Structures. “Workplace safety is our top priority. We are graded on our safety performance by our customers. Our safety grade affords us the opportunity to continue working for them.”

The commitment to a safe work environment is ongoing, so Gulf Land Structures works with LWCC Safety Services as-needed to proactively ensure a safe workplace. Gulf Land Structures and LWCC have developed a partnership through LWCC’s Consultants On-Call program through which LWCC supports the company’s safety efforts by answering safety-related questions, providing safety resources for guidance, and conducting on-site reviews of safety tasks or processes to reduce potential injuries.

“Gulf Land Structures exhibits the characteristics of an LWCC Safest 70 policyholder through the cooperation and demonstration of a safe work organization. They have implemented proactive safety controls through the use of internal and external risk assessments, safety training, and use of cutting edge technology,” said LWCC’s Safety Services Manager, Damian Simoneaux. “This has resulted in  decreased rates, reduced frequency and severity of incidents,  zero claims for the last four years, and receiving the Safest 70 Award for six consecutive years.”

Throughout their several years of growth, Gulf Land Structures has upheld a commitment to the highest level of safety in our state. That’s because it’s at the core of what the company believes. Their above and beyond commitment to Louisiana and to safety makes Gulf Land Structures a Safest 70 Star.
