Service Project 2023: Delivering a Bounty
LWCC completed its third annual Louisiana Loyal Service Project in 2023, expanding its footprint to include the Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and New Orleans metro areas.
Event Recap
In September 2023, 175 individuals made up of LWCC employees and agent partners volunteered more than 700 hours of their time to serve local food banks in Acadiana, greater Baton Rouge, and metro New Orleans. LWCC championed those efforts further by hosting in-office food drives and donating $5,000 each to Second Harvest Food Banks of Acadiana and metro New Orleans, as well as the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
Addressing a Pervasive Need
Hunger is an acute issue in the state disproportionately affecting children and seniors. One in seven people in Louisiana struggle with food insecurity. Through the Louisiana Loyal Service Project’s in-person volunteer efforts, in-office food drives, and direct donations, Second Harvest and the Greater Baton Rouge Food bank are able to support more than 800 partner organizations in providing needed meals in 34 parishes across South Louisiana. Collectively, the 2023 Louisiana Loyal Service Project provided 72,223 meals to Louisiana families faced with food insecurity.
“The success of our 2023 Louisiana Loyal Service Project illustrates the power of collaboration between like-minded businesses looking to make a positive impact on our local communities,” says Seth Irby, LWCC, SVP, Chief Strategy Officer. “At LWCC, we believe small actions we take together add up to transformational change. The outstanding work of our dedicated volunteers and partners embodies that belief and is an example of putting our purpose of helping Louisiana thrive into action.”
A lasting impact on Louisiana
Over 680,000 Louisiana residents suffer the effects of food insecurity, and over 230,000 of those individuals are children. Chronic hunger can negatively impact education, health, societal growth, and economic advancement. Organizations like the Greater Food Bank of Baton Rouge, Second Harvest, and LWCC are working to help all of Louisiana become food secure.
