WRITTEN BY

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (September 29, 2022) –LWCC and its agent partners from the Baton Rouge area together provided more than 29,000 meals in the month of September through the Louisiana Loyal Service Project benefiting the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank

“Small actions that we take together add up to drive transformational change in our communities,” said Kristin Wall, President and CEO of LWCC. “At LWCC, we believe strongly that Louisiana needs more businesses using their resources to help celebrate and elevate our great state. Our Louisiana Loyal Service Project is one way we try to inspire and involve others in that pursuit.”

The Louisiana Loyal Service Project took place between September 1 and September 16, providing for in-office food drives and a series of in-person volunteer opportunities with the Food Bank. Impact of the Louisiana Loyal Service Project includes:

  • 158 individuals volunteered, and 14 organizations hosted food drives
  • 28,070 pounds of food prepared through volunteer shifts, representing 23,392 meals
  • 7,078 pounds of food donated through food drives, representing 5,899 meals
  • 29,291 total meals provided

“The Louisiana Loyal Service Project was a fantastic case study in the impact that collaboration and partnership can have in changing our communities for the better,” said Patrick Moore, Regional President – Louisiana, of Cadence Insurance. “As businesses, we have a tremendous opportunity to serve as leaders in this space, and our team at Cadence enjoyed working side by side with our partners at LWCC and agencies across the Baton Rouge area in bringing the Louisiana Loyal movement to life.”

With rising inflation and low inventories, food insecurity is particularly acute. One in five children in the Baton Rouge area are food insecure, and the state of Louisiana has the highest rate of food insecurity in the country among children. The meal gap – the difference between the number of meals in need and the number of meals available – is 17.2M for the Capital Region. The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank serves multiple parishes in the Baton Rouge area, including Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St. James, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana.

“Corporate leadership and volunteerism in the philanthropic space is hugely impactful,” said Mike Manning, President and CEO of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. “We are grateful to LWCC for recognizing the need in our community and supporting our organization through this innovative initiative.”

The Louisiana Loyal Service Project began in 2020 as an internal initiative of LWCC lead by its Corporate Citizenship Committee and Human Resources Team to bring employees together to capitalize on the company’s Volunteer Time Off incentive program. The scope expanded in 2022 to include agent partners. Its goal is to inspire other businesses to take authentic actions to celebrate and elevate Louisiana and make a positive impact through collective volunteerism.
