LWCC Policyholder Feature: Chauvin Brothers, Inc.

WRITTEN BY

To say that Chauvin Brothers, Inc. has deep roots in its small, South Louisiana community would be a vast understatement. Located in Terrebonne Parish, where it hugs the coastal waters of the state, the town of Chauvin carries the family's name. If you dig back far enough (to 1875, to be exact), you'll find that the Chauvin family was instrumental in establishing the town by allowing a post office to be placed inside their store. Today, nearly 150 years later, that family business has undergone quite a transformation. It's under its fifth generation of Chauvin family management, sits in a different building, and its focus has shifted from seafood processing and packaging to building supplies. Still, one thing remains unchanged after all this time – the Chauvin family's dedication to their beloved state and community of the same name.

For a company that exemplifies Louisiana Loyal through its very existence, it should come as no surprise that its legacy is one of compassion and neighborly dedication. This may be a family business, but from employees to the local community and beyond, the Chauvin "family" knows no bounds. When asked about their company's greatest passion, the responses have nothing to do with a successful bottom line. Instead, they highlight the times they've been able to be of service to others.

"Our greatest reward is helping people build their homes and their livelihoods," says company President Tommy Chauvin. "A lot of people have told us they wouldn't have what they have without our help, and that goes all the way back from the seafood business to the building business today. We do everything we can to continue that tradition."

When Hurricane Ida made landfall in August 2021, it devastated the town Chauvin Brothers calls home, leaving businesses and homes flattened and causing significant damage to the company's own property. Messages of support rolled in from many looking to repay the kindness that had been shown to them over the years. Unsurprisingly, for this committed team, the sole focus was to recover as quickly as possible so that they could help others do the same.

As a long-time LWCC policyholder, Chauvin Brothers has had the added benefit of a partner who shares their core values and dedication to the betterment of our Louisiana communities. From offering an onsite mobile unit for employees after Ida's destruction to providing countless resources to keep their team safe and productive, LWCC's support is a key component in allowing this dedicated business to continue its meaningful work throughout Coastal Louisiana.

"It's a huge peace of mind, knowing that I have support and coverage for issues our team may have," says Tommy. "Thankfully, we haven't had many accidents, but there have been a few. LWCC really does all they can to get our people back to work as quickly and safely as they can."

Over many years of working together, Chauvin Brothers has taken advantage of LWCC's ample resources like seminars and benefits such as dividend payments, all of which have proven to be incredibly valuable. Both the knowledge and money gained from the relationship go directly back into the business, helping Chauvin Brothers provide both a safe and productive work environment as well as much-needed community resources.

"Chauvin Brothers has been around for well over 100 years," notes their agent, Brenda Hunter of Ledet Insurance, "They've always had the safety of their employees top of mind. They have been with LWCC for a very long time and have always gone by the book, following all the guidelines to keep their people safe."

As they approach 150 years in business, Chauvin Brothers and their long-standing commitment to their hometown are here to stay. As their workers' compensation insurance partner, we are grateful that we get to play a small role in their ongoing legacy, and work side by side to celebrate and elevate Louisiana.
