Steeped in History

While 4Sisters Rice first hit the retail market alongside a global pandemic in March of 2020, the family farm in Mer Rouge, Louisiana, had been a large part of the agricultural community for decades. Started in 1964 by the family patriarch, Elton Kennedy, this humble farm has since grown to over 25,000 acres of Louisiana rice crops, farmed directly by the Kennedy family, their tenants, and employees.

Elton Kennedy’s legacy as a leader in the agricultural industry and his constant reminder to his four daughters to “take a little grain and use it to make a difference in the world” inspired them to create 4Sisters Rice. Together, they brought to life their vision of a vertically integrated business that would allow them to bring healthy, affordable, and great-tasting rice products directly from their Morehouse Parish farm to consumers across the nation.

Women-Owned

4Sisters aren’t just sisters. Meryl, Patchez, Felicity, and Chantel are business partners and champions for Louisiana agriculture and sustainable business practices. Taking the reins of their well-established family business from their father, these four sisters have continued to expand it while infusing it with a renewed sense of purpose.

Today, you can find 4Sisters on shelves in over 4,000 American grocery stores and learn about their story via national outlets like NBC News. And, while a women-owned rice brand may seem an oddity in America’s agricultural environment, the Kennedy sisters don’t seem to mind. In fact, it’s a label they embrace, using it to further their mission, inspire others, and shift the narrative surrounding Louisiana culture and agriculture.

Hearty and Healthy

As both farmers and mothers, 4Sisters brings a unique perspective to their mission of strengthening the family unit with healthy and affordable meals. Their products boast numerous healthy qualities, including being heart-healthy, nutrient-rich, and energy-boosting. They take pride in being 100% USDA whole grain organic and Non-GMO Project verified, offering a product that allows families to stretch their meals in a healthy way. After all, a little bit of rice goes a long way.

Sustainable from Field to Packaging

From field to packaging, sustainability is a core principle that 4Sisters wholeheartedly embraces, guiding them to ensure sustainable practices at every step of the supply chain. Embracing the unique characteristics that have made Louisiana the nation’s third-largest rice producer, 4Sisters focuses on farming practices that promote its continued success. Their efforts to protect the land, water, and climate include reducing the use of chemicals and fertilizers, transitioning to fuel-efficient and battery-operated machinery, and moving toward recyclable packaging. Each endeavor reflects their commitment to safeguard Louisiana’s environment and abundant natural resources for future generations.

A lasting impact on Louisiana

Food plays an important role in Louisiana’s culture and economy. This is particularly true of rice, which not only serves as a staple in dishes like jambalaya and red beans, but also contributes hundreds of millions of dollars to the state as a top agricultural export. Thanks to an ideal climate and geographic location, Louisiana is the nation’s third-largest rice producer, and 4Sisters is among the chief contributors.
