MIMOSA Handcrafted
What began as a creative outlet for Madeline Ellis quickly grew into a way for others to connect with the state they loved, each other, and causes for a greater good. MIMOSA Handcrafted is so much more than jewelry. It’s a distinctly Louisiana business that thrives on the elements that make our state great – the people, the passion, and the rich landscape – and it’s using its success to help everyone else who is fortunate enough to call Louisiana home.

As a Louisiana native, Madeline Ellis has always found solace and inspiration in that spirit of connection and the beauty of the land surrounding her. With her deep love of Louisiana and an inherently creative spirit, Madeline created MIMOSA Handcrafted to channel these wonderfully unique aspects of our state into one-of-a-kind wearable pieces of art.
Her handcrafted jewelry designs draw largely from distinct Louisiana traits, and having a degree in landscape architecture from LSU, it’s no wonder that the state’s landscape serves as the muse for many of Madeline’s pieces. She has a way of finding the parts of our state that we all love, the elements that make it feel like home but that often go unnoticed, and presenting them in a way that inspires a new appreciation. Some of MIMOSA’s most recognizable and popular collections are odes to distinctly Louisiana places and things such as the Old State Capitol, the Mississippi River, the pelican, or the Mimosa tree after which the business is named.
Handcrafted with Care
MIMOSA's jewelry embodies a fusion of ancient artistry and modern craftsmanship, with a primary focus on the intricate technique of lost-wax casting. From their Louisiana studio, every step of the creation process is meticulously executed in-house, ensuring a personal touch to each piece.
Drawing inspiration from the ancient Egyptian method, MIMOSA specializes in casting jewelry in bronze, sterling silver, and 14K gold. This method allows them to transform sketches into tangible, three-dimensional creations. Every piece that leaves the MIMOSA studio is handcrafted in a way that captures the essence of ancient craftsmanship while also resonating with contemporary elegance.
Goods for Good
While Madeline has been celebrating Louisiana artistically and giving others the means to do so for many years, she has also found ways to elevate the state along the way. With the growing success of MIMOSA Handcrafted, she began to institute Louisiana Loyal practices and address the need she saw around her community through her Goods for Good initiative.
Today, MIMOSA donates one percent of every sale, allowing customers to select from a list of charitable causes such as the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank or the Mental Health Association for Greater Baton Rouge. During the most challenging days of the pandemic, proceeds from MIMOSA’s sales of specialty designs supplied over $20,000 worth of meals to healthcare workers and 100 bike kits to in-need children through Front Yard Bikes. When Hurricane Ida struck, MIMOSA launched a fundraising campaign through necklace sales. As a result, they raised $50,000 for the Helio Foundation out of Houma to support those most severely affected by the storm.
Mid-City Makers Market
Motivated by their passion for Louisiana's artistic talent, Madeline, alongside her husband Dawson, teamed up with Paul Claxton and Justin Lemoine in 2015 to create Mid-City Makers Market. This community hub provides a space for artists and creators in the Baton Rouge area to showcase their work and connect with the local community.
Years after its initial launch, the market stands as a testament to their vision, continuously expanding and flourishing. It serves as a platform for artists, makers, bakers, painters, and creators of all kinds to showcase their craft, while simultaneously fostering deeper connections between the residents of Baton Rouge, their beloved community, and all that makes it so wonderfully unique.
