What Is the RPO Program?
LWCC’s Reporting Purposes Only (RPO) program, for reporting minor injuries, is designed to help policyholders without adversely affecting their premium rates. The RPO program encourages you, as an LWCC policyholder, to report all claims—even minor injuries that do not require any medical treatment.
Will RPO Claims Affect My Policy’s E-mod?
Any claim that is reported and classified as an RPO claim will not adversely affect a policyholder’s E-mod (experience modifier). To help us do a better job of tracking and handling claims that originate as small injuries, LWCC enters RPO claims into our computer system. This means that RPO claims will appear on the policyholder’s loss run, but because there are no payments or reserves associated with these claims, they will not affect the policyholder’s E-mod. The RPO program is beneficial to you, the injured employee, and LWCC in the event that a minor injury reported as an RPO claim becomes worse and the report needs to be converted to an actual medical or lost-time claim. With the first report of injury details already in our system, it will speed up the claim management process.
What Constitutes an RPO Claim?
The stipulations for an injury to be an RPO claim are as follows:
- The injury must require no follow-up treatment by a hospital or medical provider and result in no time lost from work.
- At the time the policyholder reports the accident, it must specifically state that the claim is for “Reporting Purposes Only.”
- If a medical bill is received by LWCC on an RPO claim, LWCC will contact the policyholder to investigate the claim and determine whether the claim status should be changed from an RPO claim to a medical-only or lost-time claim.
- LWCC reserves the right to decide the future status change of any RPO claim. However, if LWCC believes a claim needs to be converted to a medical-only or lost-time claim, it will not be done without first discussing the reasons with the policyholder.
