The LWCC Employee Experience
Proud to be LWCC: Insights on the Employee Experience
Since 1992, LWCC has been loyal to Louisiana. While we deliver safety and security to businesses and workers across our state, we know that this commitment starts by taking care of our own employees. Named to the Best Places to Work by the Baton Rouge Business Report three times and counting, LWCC prioritizes its employees, reflected in our average employee tenure of over 14 years.
Starting with the interview process, we immerse candidates in our core values and share our team-based culture. Once hired, an employee’s onboarding and training begins from day 1. We believe in collaboration as the key to growth, so we integrate employees into every aspect of the company. From policy and benefits review, to mentoring and job shadowing, employees learn how to progress and succeed at LWCC.
“We believe when employees are given opportunities to increase their knowledge, they gain confidence in their abilities and have a greater sense of pride. Our claims training starts very early on with our onboarding program; this is a yearlong program for new hires or for people transitioning into a new position that allows the employee to quickly get acquainted with their role, their team, and our core values. We reinforce our commitment to the employee experience with bi-monthly claims training sessions to keep employees engaged and promote proactive claims management.” - Keisha Dewey-Sanders, Claims Operations Supervisor
At LWCC, we make sure our employees are set up for success. In regular one-on-one meetings with their manager, employees review their Roadmap – a personalized plan for goals, growth, and development. Individual performance is reflected in our merit award system. During each year’s Focal Point Review, an employee can be awarded a merit increase based on their Roadmap progress and performance. They may also be awarded through our Employee Incentive Program based on performance as part of the total compensation package.
We also recognize how important the work environment is for our employees’ satisfaction. In 2019-20, we completely renovated our building – designing it for both wellness and success. Each workspace is equipped with ergonomic equipment, including a height-adjustable sit/stand desk, and different work areas around the office range from technology-equipped conference rooms to lounges on every floor. While we thrive on in-person collaboration, we know that flexibility is a priority. That’s why we’re in the office Tuesday through Thursday, with the option for qualifying positions to work remotely on Monday and Friday.
As part of our LiveWell commitment, we want to provide our employees with opportunities to improve all aspects of their health – financial, nutritional, mental, and physical. Our new Fitness Center is a big piece of this. The Fitness Center is open before, during and after work, and it’s filled with state-of-the-art equipment. Through our partnership with Cooper Wellness, full-time trainers lead daily stretch and cable-based workout classes for all levels, and employees always have the option to walk or workout during their breaks at any time of the day.
“Awesome trainers! So enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Classes are challenging and fun. They focus on our balance and strength to make our everyday living easier.” – Anh Vu, Sr. Accountant
“I like the convenience, the individual attention, and the encouragement from the instructors. I’m starting to notice many small improvements in my health and my mobility, which is encouraging me to keep going.” – Cindy Gautreaux, Compensation and Benefits Specialist
“The gym is a great place to detach and focus on your physical and mental state – for me, no matter how I feel before a workout, I always feel energized after a workout! The Cooper trainers work with you to set goals and then coach and train you to achieve your goals. I’m sure it’s crazy, but I think going to the gym is fun!” – Glenn Audiffred, Director of Strategic Analytics
Other opportunities for improving our employees’ overall development and wellness include:
- Educational Assistance & Development – LWCC will compensate for education, trainings, certifications, society membership, and ongoing development. Attend our All-In sessions to elevate the employee experience with quarterly speakers and seminars. And, join our Read & Lead book club to discuss leadership principles and develop the skills to lead effectively.
- Employee Assistance Program – LWCC offers free, confidential counseling for personal health and situations ranging from therapy to financial consulting.
- Healthy meals – Recharge the body and mind with hot and healthy lunches offered on-site. These meals are made possible at an affordable price through our partnership with Baton Rouge General.
- Market – When you’re in need of a snack break, stop by the Avanti Market next to our second floor café for a variety of healthy snacks.
- Cornerstone Committee – These ambassadors ignite and sustain our employees’ passion for the company’s core values by sponsoring different events and awards programs throughout the year.
- Diversity & Inclusion Employee Resource Group – This employee-led group fosters a diverse, inclusive workplace aligned with LWCC’s core values and promotes awareness and education year-round.
- Corporate Citizenship Committee – This committee is dedicated to helping Louisiana thrive by organizing ways to help our community.
“Through a collaborative effort, we use our Volunteer Time Off to help with service projects – such as a Stuff the Bus event, our community work with Front Yard Bikes, and our partnership with the American Heart Association – to elevate our region and state.” – Kimberly Sanders, Corporate Citizenship Committee Chair
Another way that LWCC cares for its employees is by providing a comprehensive benefits package.
- The company provides 7 paid holidays, as well as 2 floating holidays per year.
- Each employee can accrue paid time off at a minimum of 3 weeks annually.
- Employees are provided volunteer time off – up to 8 hours per year.
- Health insurance plan options are offered, including options for dental, vision, cancer, and accident care.
- LWCC offers a 401(k) with both traditional and Roth options. The plan provides employer matching up to 6% of the employee’s salary (dollar-for-dollar matching up 4% of the employee’s salary, and 50 cents on the dollar for the next two percent of the salary). There is also an annual retirement plus contribution of 3.5% of the employee’s salary.
